Columbus Futsal League and Academy Receives Sanction from United States Youth Futsal an Affiliate of U.S. Soccer
“We welcome you as a member league of United States Youth Futsal. We are very optimistic about the skills, experience and enthusiasm you bring to developing an organization in your area.”
COLUMBUS, OHIO, SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2016 – Shortly before celebrating 10 years of play in the Columbus area, we received the big news! On June 25th, United States Youth Futsal welcomed the Columbus Futsal League as one of their newest sanctioned leagues! After months of perseverance this was a huge honor not only for our club but for our love of the game and dedication to player development in central Ohio. U.S. Youth Futsal is the largest youth futsal organization in the country with more than 100 local leagues, Futsal I.D. for Youth National teams, 8 Regional championships and 1 National championship.
Starting this November we will launch the Columbus Futsal League, Central Ohio’s premier competitive futsal league sanctioned by U.S. Youth Futsal & U.S. Adult Futsal! It will feature youth and adult divisions for boys, girls, club and rec level teams–U8 through High School, men’s open and women’s open. With high-quality officiating, fair and balanced competition, superior facilities and outstanding service we hope to keep coaches, players and parents involved year after year. Recently, U.S. Soccer and the U.S. Soccer Development Academy are mandating futsal as a component of their player development initiative. There are no walls in futsal. Accurate passing and speed of play are key, unlike rebounds and wall-based techniques used in indoor soccer, which are not part of the outdoor game. It is also a lot safer and you will be getting roughly 500 touches in an hour of play. We hope to see a lot clubs add futsal to their winter training with us this year. An outdoor coach can coach his or her same team in the futsal league, which will only strengthen team chemistry come Spring. The deadline to register your team is October 15th, 2016
! Teams can play in two different sessions November – March 2017 with the Ohio Futsal Cup coinciding. Select players from the league may be called upon to represent Columbus Futsal Academy at regional and national events. You can read more information about the league and register your teams here
. Clinic tryouts for the Columbus Futsal Academy
are 9/10-9/11 and 9/17-9/18. We are ready to get Columbus playing futsal!
What is futsal and why should you play it? Futsal is not new. Futsal originated in South America and is a major cultural staple in these regions, as well as, a globally recognized sport with over 25 million players. With the rising popularity in the United States it has been noted as having the tactics of basketball, the speed of hockey, and requires foot skills similar to soccer, but better. As stated by USYF
, “Futsal is recognized as the best option for player development. It is especially great for improving speed of play, technical skills, decision-making and fitness”. Futsal is the only indoor game approved by FIFA. It is played on a hard court surface (roughly 20mX40m) with small goals. There are four players and one goalkeeper with unlimited substitutions. Throw-ins are replaced by kick-ins. Goalkeepers use their hands for goal kicks. After five team fouls, players can kick without a defensive wall from the 10m penalty mark. Two referees control the game assisted by a third and a timekeeper. The game lasts two periods of 20 minutes. The result: great skills, fantastic goals, pure football, pure FUN! With the FIFA Futsal World Cup beginning September 10th and the Professional Futsal League launching in the U.S. in 2018 it’s easy to see why this technical, quick-paced game is on the rise. Once you experience futsal, you will see the reasons!
Dante Garcia, a leading futsal coach in the state of Ohio and academy director for Columbus Futsal, is pleased to announce a new league in Columbus. The Columbus Futsal League will showcase U.S. Soccer referees specifically certified for futsal officiating, along with official futsal-sized courts hosted by the best indoor sports facilities in our area. Here is what he had to say about the upcoming league: “I am very excited to kick-off the 2016-2017 season and we look forward to seeing all the club teams play futsal with us this year. I’m sure you may know, futsal is a great tool for young soccer players but when played correctly the results can be even more beneficial! This is not a kick-around league and by playing in our league, athletes have opportunities to be selected to play at the regional, national, and international levels. It’s going to be fast and it’s going to be FUN!” He also stated how important futsal is as a training catalyst for soccer, “I’m just really looking forward to a new era of soccer players throughout Ohio and the United States. Futsal played the correct way is so important to player development. Back when I was a kid, I was playing kick-the-can with all my friends and I wish we had a league like this to flourish in.”
Over the summer, young athletes, U10-U18, traveled to Colombia to play futsal under the direction of USYFNT. U.S. Youth Futsal’s National Teams recorded an aggregate 13-4-1 record during three days of competition against top Colombian teams, scoring 98 goals and allowing just 48. Click here
